• The primary role of an Obstetrician-Gynecologist is the evaluation and management of patients antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum; management of maternal chronic illnesses; management of early pregnancy complications as well as performing obstetric ultrasounds. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Demonstrate clinical competency and commitment to high-quality care of patients. • Elicit an appropriate history and perform focused physical examination to determine sound clinical judgement. • Establish plans for ongoing care and, when appropriate, timely referral to other colleagues qualified to offer expertise assistance in the care of these patients. • Accurately document medical records including charting/monitoring of patients’ conditions and progress. • Collaborate with other members of the clinical staff to provide holistic and integrative medical care of patients. • Refer to other specialized physicians within the hospital when indicated and accessible, and if not available, refer to external healthcare facilities domestic or overseas. • Provide measures of improvement clinically and surgically, with specific clinical protocols and assessing equipment and instrumentation for effectiveness. • Must be able to perform core procedures for the purpose of assessment and/or management of paediatric and adult patients, including but not limited to any of the following: OBSTETRIC SERVICES: • Antenatal care to include clinical assessments, examinations, investigations, ultrasound scans, prescriptions as necessary and advice from confirmation of pregnancy throughout the antenatal period by arranging regular follow up appointments. • Intrapartum care managing a patient’s labour with the assistance of midwifery colleagues. To be responsible for and to conduct the deliveries of patients including normal vaginal delivery, assisted vaginal delivery or operative delivery. To conduct the management of the third stage of labour, repair of perineal tears or episiotomy and any complications arising during each stage of labour • Management of Obstetric Emergencies. • Post-partum care providing care for women after delivery with the support of midwifery colleagues including the six-week postnatal check • Pre-conceptual advice providing where necessary advice about optimising pre-existing medical conditions prior to pregnancy, working with specialist colleagues as necessary in the best interests of the patients GYNAECOLOGICAL SERVICES: • Diagnostic services for general gynaecological problems for women, girls and adolescents • Conditions including menstrual disorders, endometriosis, sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain, urogynecology disorders and uterovaginal prolapse including fitting of vaginal pessaries, fertility assessment, pelvic masses, vulval problems and reproductive endocrine disorders. o Diagnosis to include history taking, clinical examination, relevant investigations and appropriate gynaecological imaging. • Colposcopy - examination and treatment of HRHPV, CIN/VAIN and VIN and follow-up. Perform inpatient and outpatient LLETZ/LEEP procedures and inpatient NETZ/ Cone biopsy treatments. • Medical and surgical management of ectopic pregnancy • Treatment for gynaecological problems. • Minimal access surgery including outpatient and inpatient hysteroscopic and inpatient laparoscopic procedures • Vaginal surgery including vaginal hysterectomy, anterior and posterior colporrhaphy, Manchester repair, Colpocleisis, partial or total vaginectomy. • Prescribing appropriate medication to manage gynecological problems o Screening services o Rapid Access Cancer Screening Clinics o Cervical cytology screening o Colposcopy o Hysteroscopy o Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections where appropriate. • Contraceptive advice.
