FAQs

Check out the answers to some of our most Frequently Asked Questions.

By default, no information is shared.

If someone scans the QR code on your card, they will see a message that you have chosen not to share your information.

As the cardholder, you control what is shared. You can sign in at https://myeid.egov.ky using your card and PIN, select My Info, then choose Share My Info from the navigation menu. From there, you can toggle on or off the specific information you wish to share.

When someone scans your QR code, they must sign in using eServices Sign In with multi-factor authentication to view only the information you have chosen to share.

No. The Government does not track your activities through My eID.

It does not know when or where you physically present your ID card, and it does not know if you have signed documents using your digital certificate.

When you authenticate using eServices Sign In, a log is recorded for security and audit purposes. This helps protect the system and maintain an audit trail. Access to these logs is restricted to authorised system administrators and only where there is an operational or legal basis.

Similarly, a log is kept of access to view or update your information in My Info. This is for security and audit purposes and is visible to you. You can view access to your data by signing in at https://myeid.egov.ky, selecting View My Info, then Accesses to My Info.

My eID is built using internationally recognised standards and Government-grade technologies designed to prevent unauthorised access.

If a security incident were ever suspected, established Government cyber security and incident response procedures would be activated immediately to investigate, contain and address the issue.

Digital certificates can be suspended or revoked if necessary to safeguard users.

Systems are monitored and maintained to reduce risk and ensure continued protection of personal information.

The rollout is being done in phases to ensure a smooth, secure and well-managed introduction of My eID.

Phased implementation allows systems, processes and integrations to be tested and refined as adoption grows. Additional staff and locations are being added to increase capacity so more appointments can be accommodated and more ID cards can be issued.

Additional groups will be included as the rollout progresses.

Yes. You can use My eID to sign PDF documents with the digital signature certificate stored on your card, using your PIN for consent. Digital signing is available through the My eID mobile app (iOS and Android) and through desktop software for PC or Mac when used with Adobe.

My eID gives young people an official Government-issued photo ID that proves their identity and Cayman immigration status.

It can make it easier to apply for jobs, scholarships, training programmes and other opportunities where proof of identity or immigration status is required.

Young people over 16, can also use My eID to sign documents digitally, access online Government services, and manage their identity information securely through the My Info portal — helping them build independence in a secure and trusted way.

My eID is an official Government-issued photo ID and can be used as proof of identity and Cayman immigration status.

Banks and other financial institutions may accept My eID as part of their identification and verification processes, in line with their internal compliance and regulatory requirements.

If you experience any difficulty using My eID with a bank, please contact myeid@egov.ky so we can follow up.

Private sector organisations will be integrated through secure digital verification and authentication services linked to My eID.

This includes the ability to verify identity, confirm Cayman immigration status where appropriate, and support digital signatures for transactions and compliance processes.

Integration will be done in a phased and secure manner, working with industry groups and regulated entities to ensure systems, privacy protections and legal requirements are properly aligned.

If you have indicated in your application that you are Caymanian, but your immigration status in WORC’s records is not currently reflected in the way required for us to issue a My eID card showing immigration status as Caymanian. My eID may not be able to show immigration status as Caymanian until those records are updated.

WORC is the designated authority responsible for formally confirming a person’s Caymanian status. Their records must be updated before a My eID card can be issued showing immigration status as Caymanian.

* Guidance on how to use the sharing feature will be published soon.
