Renewal of Practising License Guidelines
1. Renewal Periods
Pursuant to the Health Practice Act (2021 Revision) ["The Act"]:
Principal List
- The registration certificate for practitioners registered on the Principal list will not expire unless the holder ceases to maintain the practising license for a period not less than 5 consecutive years or the holder ceases to maintain the requirements for registration.
- Renewal of a practising license certificate for practitioners registered on the Principal list will be granted for a period of two years, and expires on the anniversary of the licensee date of birth.
Institutional List
- The registration certificate for practitioners registered on the Institutional list will expire every two years and practitioners wishing to renew his/her registration must apply at least 60 days prior to the expiration of the registration certificate.
- Renewal of a practising license certificate for practitioners registered on the Institutional list will be granted for a period of two years and may be renewed for consecutive periods not exceeding two years in any period.
Provisional List
- The registration certificate for practitioners registered on the Provisional list will expire every two years and practitioners wishing to renew his/her registration must apply at least 60 days prior to the expiration of the registration certificate.
- Renewal of a practising license certificate for practitioners registered on the Provisional list will be granted for a period not exceeding two years and may be renewed every two-years while the practitioner is working towards a relevant qualification recognized by the Council.

Additionally, pursuant to section 27A (7),
A person who:
- Practices in contravention of subsection (1); or
- being a registered practitioner, practices without having adequate malpractice insurance, liability insurance, other relevant insurance or indemnity cover approved by the Commission, commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of twenty-five thousand dollars
- Supporting documents for any changes to affiliate/employer which includes a new letter of affiliation; proof of name changes such as marriage certificate, divorce decree, etc.
- Continued Medical Education Certificates (CME) or Continued Education certificates (CE).
- Copy of current Malpractice Insurance covering practice in the Cayman Islands.
- Written evidence of the matter of any convictions, disciplinary actions, investigations or proceedings which are pending or completed.
- Prescribed fees shall be submitted online. If otherwise, instructions will be provided during the online application process depending on the fee type you select.

Accept Declaration
- Provide proof of CME/CE hours completed – upload CME/CE certificates as a pdf document with the online application.
- CME/CE certificates that are uploaded must show the practitioner’s name, topic or title of certificate, the number of hours obtained, date of completion and the name of the provider.
- When submitting any certificate from a conference or when claiming more than 10 hours on a certificate, a transcript or breakdown of the modules/topics must be provided along with the certificate.
- CMEs/CEs are to be completed within the two-year practising license period. Each Council recommends that practitioners complete CMEs/CEs during the course of the two-year practising license period and not weeks or days immediately preceding the renewal deadline as practitioners are expected to demonstrate to the Council that the practitioner is keeping abreast and up to date in their area of practice during the course of the two-year practising license period. CMEs/CEs accompanying a renewal application where more than 60% of continuing education hours submitted are completed within 30 days immediately preceding the submission of the application will be accepted solely at the discretion of the Council.
- CMEs/CEs completed within any given day should not exceed 8 hours.
- CEs obtained above the minimum hours required for registration cannot be carried over for use in the following renewal period.
- Training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Fire Safety, Office Ergonomics, or other agency specific educational training WILL NOT be accepted as continuing education hours.
- CME/CE hours are subject to audit by the relevant Council

Cash/Cheque Payment - To make a payment via cheque or cash, please visit the Government office at 133 Elgin Avenue Grand Cayman KY1 9000. The DHRS counter is open from Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Please bring a valid government issued identification and the application reference number to complete the payment.

Bank Payment - To pay via bank transfer, please use the banking details provided below. Include the application reference number, practitioner’s name, and Council as the payment reference to ensure the payment is correctly matched to the application. Payments may take 2-3 business days to process. Once the payment is confirmed, the DHRS will proceed with processing the application.

Paid by Facility - If the renewal fee has been prepaid or covered by the health care facility, please provide proof of payment or an authorization letter from the sponsoring entity. This documentation should include the payment details, covered amount, and the application reference number.
