Cookie Notice

The Department of Health Regulatory Services, part of the Cayman Islands Government (“DHRS”), respects your privacy and protects your personal data. We are a Data Controller, and we comply with the Cayman Islands Data Protection Act (2021 Revision) (the “Act”).

This notice (“Cookie Notice”) demonstrates our commitment to ensuring your Personal Data are handled responsibly and applies to the DHRS websites and portals.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are small data files placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are used to ensure the website works correctly, improve efficiency, and provide reporting information.

Our website uses Cookies to distinguish you from other users of the website. When you visit DHRS websites and portals, we may store small files known as Cookies on your computer, phone, tablet or any other device through your web browser. Information is stored in these text files. Enabling Cookies may allow for a more tailored browsing experience and is required for certain website functionality. In the majority of cases, a Cookie does not provide us with any of your personal data.

We use data collected through cookies to measure how users interact with our website and portal so we can update as needed to make it user-friendly and optimize the experience. This information is aggregated, and we do not use it to link information to individual users. We also use data collected to improve our communications and services.

Types of Cookies we use

  • Strictly Necessary Cookies:

These Cookies are required for users to browse our website and use its features and cannot be switched off in our systems. Your consent is not required to place strictly necessary Cookies on your device. These Cookies are usually only set in response to your actions, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. They let you move around the website and use essential features like secure areas. Without these Cookies, we cannot provide the requested services. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these Cookies. However, if you block them, you may not be able to access or use some features and services on our website.

  • Session cookies:

These Cookies only live in the browser’s memory and are never stored anywhere. When the browser closes, the cookie is permanently lost from this point on. Hence, it gets destroyed when the browser session ends.

  • Persistent cookies:

They are stored on your hard drive. By default, the DHRS sets the maximum age of the cookie at 30 days. These Cookies allow us to count visits, traffic sources (which pages you visited and which links you clicked on), session length, IP addresses, browser and device information, and measure and improve our website's performance. They help us understand how visitors move around the website and which pages are the most and least popular to visitors. All information collected by these Cookies is aggregated and, therefore, anonymous. If you do not allow these Cookies, we will not know when you visited our website and will be unable to monitor its performance.
