Conditions
The Financial Assistance Act, 2022 empowers the Department of Financial Assistance to set conditions for those receiving aid. Conditions are rules and expectations linked to financial assistance. Our aim is to remove barriers, ensure transparency, encourage compliance, and distribute resources fairly.
If your household is approved for assistance, you'll receive interim approval within ten working days. This approval is tied to your conditions and the requirement that all adult household members must attend an initial case management meeting within 30 calendar days.
This meeting can happen at our office, your home, an external location, over the phone, or virtually. If all adult household members are unable to meet at once, separate meetings can be facilitated within a timeframe of no more than 30 calendar days. To confirm identity, a photo ID or the number for an ID on file at the DFA office should be provided.
The initial case management meeting helps us understand your situation and decide on conditions. Conditions can apply to the whole household or specific members.
All households receiving assistance must:
All households receiving assistance must:
- Notify DFA within ten working days of address or circumstance changes
- Notify DFA ten working days before traveling off the islands
- Provide requested information or documentation
- Attend meetings scheduled by us
Additional conditions may apply to adult household members, such as:
- Registering with Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC)
- Attending educational or training courses
- Pursuing employment, internships, or apprenticeships
- Completing volunteer work
- Undergoing substance use assessments
- Attending parenting programs
- Undergoing medical or psychiatric evaluations
- Participating in treatment programs
We will monitor conditions to ensure compliance. Non-compliance by one or more members may result in suspension or revocation of financial assistance for the entire household.
To resume assistance, the household must prove compliance within 30 calendar days. Continued non-compliance after one month may result in assistance revocation. If assistance resumes but conditions aren't met again, assistance may be revoked without suspension.
