Grand Cayman, 3 July 2025 – A well-established local law firm was recently found guilty and fined for violating the Immigration (Transition) Act (2022 Revision) by failing to disclose Caymanian applicants during a recruitment process earlier in 2025.
Following a complaint made to the Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC) Compliance and Enforcement Unit, an investigation was opened and the necessary inquiries were conducted. WORC submitted the case findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which resulted in multiple charges brought against the law firm.
Deputy Director of Compliance Mervin Manderson said, “This case underscores WORC's unwavering commitment to promoting accountability across all sectors—not only in traditionally scrutinized industries like construction, janitorial services, and landscaping, but also within white-collar professions."
WORC Director Jeremy Scott said, “Thank you to WORC’s Compliance Officers for their diligence and commitment in the investigation.” He further stated, “We have zero tolerance for violations of this nature and will continue, when necessary, to pursue businesses who try to circumvent our immigrations laws.”
WORC reminds all businesses of their ongoing legal obligations under the Immigration (Transition) Act (2022 Revision) Act. Reports of non-compliance will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate enforcement action will be taken where necessary. Penalties upon conviction range from administrative fines up to CI $20,000 or imprisonment.
