Required Documents
To ensure that the Cayman Islands Identification Card is issued to the correct individual, you will need to provide specific documents:
- Valid passport with current name.
If you do not have a passport, you will need to provide additional documents to prove your identity (all of the following will be required):
- Birth or adoption certificate (if no passport is available).
- Declaration of identity from a recognized referee.
- Certified photograph, driver’s license, or voter’s ID.
Why do I need to provide a proof of identity?
The Cayman Islands Identifcation Card is a government-issued ID which can be used as proof of the identity facts printed on the card and shared digitally*. This requires the highest level of identity proofing and verification be conducted to ensure the identification card is issued to the right person. We follow best practices, and standards to ensure the card is issued to the correct person.
Proof of Immigration Status:
If your immigration status cannot be retrieved automatically from the WORC system, we may require documents to confirm your proof of Caymanian immigration status or right to reside in the Cayman Islands, such as:
- An Acknowledgment Letter from WORC or former Immigration Department
- Caymanian Status Certificate
- Stamp in a valid passport indicating the Caymanian status
- Permanent Residency Certificate/Letter
- Work Permit or Proof of Right to Reside
- Cayman Islands Government Employment Agreement OR valid job letter
- Other form of right or permission to reside
Why may I need to provide proof of immigration status?
We are able to retrieve immigration status dynamically from the WORC system. There may be cases where your unique record cannot be found or the immigration status as stored may not match your claimed immigration status, such as a Caymanian that has not been through the Acknowledgement Process. The Department of eGovernment is collaborating with WORC to expedite applications for acknowledgement as Caymanian. As such, if you are not acknowledged as a Caymanian you may be required to submit additional details after registering your interest.
